Barca to appeal transfer ban

Barcelona have announced their intention to appeal against the transfer ban imposed by FIFA.

The Liga champions were hit with an embargo for the next two transfer windows after irregularities were found in their dealings at youth level by world football s governing body.

Barca were sanctioned after breaching rules relating to 10 signings between 2009 and 2013.

However, the Camp Nou outfit confirmed on Wednesday that they will appeal the decision and could even take the issue to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

A statement on the club s official website read: FCB will present the corresponding appeal to FIFA and if necessary will submit the resulting resolution to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

It is not the first time this season that Barcelo…

Bayern have been flying in Heynckes fourth spell in charge, with the Bundesliga champions 20 points clear at the top of the league and through to the DFB-Pokal semi-finals.

Heynckes bowed out at Bayern in June 2013 after leading the club to the treble and the coach may yet repeat the feat, his side holding a 5-0 lead against Besiktas in the last-16 of the Champions League.

Liverpool 1-4 Manchester City: Three things as City take full advantage of Liverpool crisis

It has happened; Manchester City have finally managed to earn three points at Anfield against Liverpool. It s the first time they ve done that since Pep Guardiola took over in 2016, and it s probably the most important triumph against the team that has been their fiercest rival for several years now.

Lacklustre Liverpool

Liverpool have been a far cry from the team that strolled to the Premier League title last season for a while now. In fact, this is their third consecutive home defeat and the fifth time in a row that they failed to win.

Much has been said about the injury crisis that has been hitting the defending champions relentlessly from the start. They ve been left without all three designated centre-backs they had at the start of term, most likely for a…

Atletico Madrid were pipped to top spot in Champions League Group A by Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday as they were held to a goalless draw by Club Brugge in Belgium.

The Spanish outfit needed a win to guarantee first place, or hope that Dortmund did not win in Monaco.

But Dortmund triumphed 2-0 in the principality as Atleti drew a blank against a lively Brugge side, who very nearly snatched victory 15 minutes from time when substitute Luan Peres had a header saved by the foot of Jan Oblak.

Antoine Griezmann saw Brugge goalkeeper Ethan Horvath make a superb stop to deny him with Atleti s best chance of the game in the first half.

Despite Brugge s fate being settled, they contributed to a fantastic pace at the start of the match, although the first real o…

Arsenal

Year after year, the Gunners set themselves the same goal to finish inside the top four and return to the Champions League, where they feel they belong, despite not playing in the competition since 2016-17.
