Here, Stats Perform takes a look over some of the defining moments of his tenure in charge – from breaking long-standing national hoodoos, to falling just short of all-time greatness.

Republic of Ireland v Switzerland: Keane keen for focus ahead of Euro 2016

Roy Keane has called on the Republic of Ireland to forget their dramatic Euro 2016 play-off win over Bosnia-Herzegovina and refocus ahead of Friday s friendly against Switzerland.

Ireland secured their place at the upcoming tournament in France by virtue of a 3-1 aggregate victory over Mehmed Bazdarevic s men last November.

Martin O Neill s side were handed a tough draw for the finals, with Sweden, Belgium and Italy awaiting in Group E, and begin their preparations against Switzerland in Dublin this week, before welcoming Slovakia to the Aviva Stadium on Tuesday.

And O Neill s assistant Keane says Ireland must put the euphoria of reaching the finals behind them.

That s over with now, all that stops,  the former Ireland and Manchester United captain sa…

Man Utd should not have re-signed Ronaldo, claims Carragher

Manchester United made a mistake by re-signing Cristiano Ronaldo, and would be making another error by keeping him at the club next season, so says Jamie Carragher.

Ronaldo ended a six-game goal drought in United s 2-0 win over Brighton and Hove Albion earlier this week, his worst such run since January 2009, but talk has focused upon whether the five-time Ballon d Or winner s return to Old Trafford last year has improved the Red Devils.

Harry Maguire and Marcus Rashford have both denied reports of a rift in the United dressing room, while there has been speculation that the 37-year-old will leave at the end of the campaign.

Liverpool great and Sky Sports pundit Carragher has now questioned the wisdom of signing Ronaldo, and predicted that keeping him at the …

´An honour to face Messi´ says Saudi Arabia coach ahead of World Cup clash with Argentina

Lionel Messi begins his World Cup campaign on Tuesday against Saudi Arabia, whose head coach is looking forward to the challenge.

Herve Renard s men face Argentina in their Group C opener and the experienced French coach insists his team are not just in Qatar to make up the numbers.

All six of Messi s goals at previous World Cups have been scored in the group stages, while he has netted 12 times in 19 games for Paris Saint-Germain this season.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Renard said: Cristiano [Ronaldo] and Messi are football legends and thanks to them, football is different. It s an honour to be here and play against them.

When there s a fight you have to be one hundred per cent motivated to beat the best. That s the beauty of sport. In s…

Will Keane nets equaliser to earn Preston deserved point at Bristol City

Will Keane marked the start of his second spell as a Preston player with a late equaliser in a 1-1 Championship draw with Bristol City at Ashton Gate.

The hosts took a 47th-minute lead when a Harry Cornick long throw into the box caused havoc in the Preston defence and, after Nahki Wells fired against a post, Sam Bell was on hand to slot home the rebound.

But North End stormed back and it was no surprise when Keane, back at the club he served on loan from Manchester United in 2015, levelled after 86 minutes with a smart shot on the turn from the middle of a crowded penalty area.

It was no more than Preston deserved for an impressive second-half display that saw them create numerous chances. But City will see it as two points lost after leading for so long.

Women´s Euros: Fran Kirby says England will ´lean on´ Wiegman´s experience in semi-final against Swe

Fran Kirby says England will lean on the experience of head coach Sarina Wiegman in their Women s Euros semi-final showdown with Sweden.

Wiegman s side are seeking a third appearance in the final of this competition when they clash with the 1984 champions at Bramall Lane on Tuesday and first since 2009.

Following their dramatic quarter-final victory over Spain, the Lionesses are now unbeaten in 18 matches, while Sweden have not lost since a 2-1 defeat by Denmark in March 2020.

The tournament hosts will also be aiming to avoid a fourth successive semi-final defeat in major competitions, having fallen at this stage of the 2017 European Championship as well as the World Cup in 2015 and 2019.

Meanwhile, Wiegman is looking to lift this trophy for the second t…

Klopp: Bournemouth deserved to beat Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp conceded Bournemouth deserved their 1-0 win against Liverpool after the Reds missed the chance to move into the Premier League s top four.

Philip Billing s first-half effort was enough to down the Merseyside outfit at the Vitality Stadium, with three points taking the Cherries out of the relegation zone.

Mohamed Salah, fresh from a brace in last Sunday s 7-0 hammering of Manchester United that saw the Egypt international become Liverpool s all-time top scorer in the Premier League, missed a second-half penalty to leave the visitors licking their wounds.

Klopp believes that could have been the turning point in the game, though he felt Bournemouth, who gave leaders Arsenal a scare last time out, were long overdue a victory.

Tottenham replace Stellini with Mason after ´devastating´ Newcastle rout

Tottenham have dismissed Cristian Stellini from his role as acting head coach, replacing the Italian with Ryan Mason in the aftermath of Sunday s humiliating 6-1 defeat to Newcastle United.

Stellini took charge on an interim basis following Antonio Conte s exit last month, but the former assistant has been unable to inspire a turnaround in Spurs ailing bid to secure Champions League qualification.

Tottenham found themselves 5-0 down within 21 minutes of an extraordinary meeting with top-four rivals Newcastle on Sunday, the second-earliest a side have ever gone five goals down in a Premier League match.

The result represents Spurs first five-goal Premier League defeat since a 5-0 loss to Liverpool in December 2013, leaving them six points adrift of the third-place…
